It’s no secret Charles Billingsley is one of Christian music’s most captivating Inspirational voices, but for this singer, worship leader, husband, father and teacher—to name but a few of his leading roles—it’s what’s behind the music that has truly made the man. Launching his career more than two decades ago fronting GRAMMY®- nominated genre giants NewSong, Charles has since headlined more than 3,000 concerts and released 24 recordings as a solo artist. Also a sought-after worship leader, he regularly appears at such popular events as Women of Joy, Gridiron Men and Celebrators, among numerous others.
Yet even with a list of accolades and endeavors this diverse, Charles stands poised for a new season on the wings of his groundbreaking latest studio recording, Right Here. Not only is the project one of Stowtown Records’ debut pop/Inspirational releases, as the label—helmed by industry veterans Ernie Haase and Wayne Haun—recently expanded their roster into the contemporary Christian market, but Charles selected a duo of top producers to steer the recording: GRAMMY®-winner and Dove Award winner Keith Everette Smith and GRAMMY®-winner Seth Mosley, the latter of whom has produced hit recordings for such artists as TobyMac, Newsboys and for KING & COUNTRY.
Furthermore, Right Here boasts a dream team of songwriters, including heavy hitters Matt Hammitt (formerly of Sanctus Real), Michael Farren, Seth Mosley, Mia Fields and Krissy Nordhoff. The result is a fresh, seamless collection of modern and classic worship offerings. “With every record, I try to push it just a little further than I did before, stylistically, without compromising the message at all,” says Charles. “But I also look for songs that people will sing—that they can drive down the road worshiping the Lord with, but also sing congregationally.”
He plans at least one song on each album to specifically celebrate the cross, and Right Here showcases two—“Victory (The Blood of Jesus)” and the congregational anthem “Hallelujah for the Savior.” Other selections include the multi-generational “There’s Nothing My God Cannot Do,” a fresh take on the Delirious hit “Majesty,” and “See You Again,” a duet with multi Dove Award-winning worship leader Meredith Andrews.
